EbonyLife delights inspirational women with special screening of Royal Hibiscus Hotel
Romantic comedy wraps up successful celebration of International Women’s Day
In celebration of this year’s International Women’s Day, EbonyLife Films, producers of Fifty, The Wedding Party and The Wedding Party 2, screened its latest movie, The Royal Hibiscus Hotel (RHH) on March 28 at an event themed, ‘Finding your Passion and Purpose’. The occasion took place to honour 300 women who were nominated by the public for their dedication, sacrifice and inspiration in different industries.
Mo Abudu, CEO of EbonyLife Films, who was unavoidably absent, was nevertheless excited at the turnout and what appeared to be a delightful evening. “We are grateful to the women who attended the event. It was our way of encouraging them to keep up the good work. We hope they had a lovely time. Loads of gratitude go to our sponsors and partners for collaborating with us on this programme,” she said.
During the evening, audiences heard briefly from guest speakers Nimi Akinkugbe, CEO of Bestman Games, and Yewande Zaccheaus, CEO of Eventful Ltd. Drawing from their personal stories, they spoke in alignment with the theme. They encouraged the women to “seize the moment,” “surround yourselves with the right support system” and “dream big.”
The attendees also enjoyed delicious finger-foods, an assortment of drinks courtesy of Johnnie Walker and delightful performances by Kaliné and Jolly J. The programme was organised in collaboration with WimBiz, First Bank of Nigeria and Access Bank (the ‘W’ Initiative).
The night was brought to a lovely end with the screening of EbonyLife’s newest film, The Royal Hibiscus Hotel, which tells the story of Ope, a struggling Nigerian chef in London who moves back to Lagos and discovers that life can be unpredictable. Judging from the laughter and heartfelt sighs from the audience, it was evident once more that RHH is a special movie with something for everyone.
